Why is my Disc Drive is not playing DVDs or recognising blank CDs?

Filecure

I have Windows XP and have this problem. I have changed from WMP 11 to WMP 9, downloaded ‘Parentlogic Filecure’ but all to no avail.
Whenever i try to play a DVD I get the following error message: Error ID = 0xC00D116A.
Can anyone help?? Been at this most of today and getting frustrated.

From what I can tell you get that error code if your computer either doesn’t have or has corrupted MPEG-2 decoder software. You can probably fix this by downloading and installing the K-Lite codec pack – which is free. Here’s the download link: http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

And here’s the main download page: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Windows XP requires you to have third party (not Microsoft) DVD decoder software. The K-Lite codec pack includes one, along with many other codecs that could be useful. However although this is what that error code means, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t recognise a blank CD. Perhaps cleaning it’s lens would be a good idea too.
