I may have inadvertently formatted my external drive and now I cannot access the files nor save to it. I have purchased File Recover for Windows and downloaded it, then scanned all the files and attempted to recover them, but have been unsuccessful. I also purchased FileCure but still am unable to recover. I have managed to pull binary and hexadecimal files out and save on my computer ‘C’ Drive but don’t know how to convert them to documents. I also have 7-zip but don’t know how to use it or what it’s supposed to do.

I have a file that I don’t have the right program to open. I clicked ‘Use Web service to find a list of programs’ or whatever it says, as you would, and I got redirected to the ParetoLogic Filecure site, rather than the usual Microsoft website. I checked over the internet and everybody said it was a virus. I panicked and left the site immediately, and thought-Is the virus on my system (I don’t think so, because nothing strange has happened, and nothing has popped up), or is it on the internet? Also, the Filecure site I’ve been redirected to is different to the ordinary one that I found.

Please tell me, do I have a virus, Is it a virus, and what should I do about it? Please help!!!
I already have Malwarebytes, I’ll use that.
AHA! Hitman Pro detected supposed Malware just now. It’s called pngrewrite.exe-That sounds like redirect malware to me! Thanks guys, I hope it can kill it.

A lot of malware is programmed to redirect you to malicious sites, do a quick scan with Malwarebytes its very effective and free, may also be a good idea to scan your PC with Hitman Pro as well, it scans with five different anti-virus engines at once, simply activate the 30 day free trial then once you PC has been cleaned remove it.

‘Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.’

I found a site called FileCure and it scans everything – tells you theres 35 problems but it costs to fix! Is this the only solution?? Thanks

Go to Tools, Options in Firefox, Internet Options in IE.
Under the General tab, there will be a section where you can enter your preferred URL for your homepage. Change it to google.com.

FileCure is a spyware program. Google “filecure scam” and follow the rabbit hole, and hopefully somebody can help you get it off your computer. Without some kind of feedback system in here I couldn’t help you, and don’t want to.

I downloaded a set of icon today, and the file is zipped, when I tried to open it, my laptop does not support .dll files, I tried the selection to search the web to find an appropriate program, then it reccomended me to use FileCure, so I downloaded FileCure, when I tried to use it, it just scans my file and that’s it, I still can’t open it. Do you know any way to open a dll file instead of using this FileCure rubbish?

Get rid of FileCure – it doesn’t have a good reputation and isn’t useful to you in this situation.

XP computers and later can open ordinary zipped files. For earlier versions of Windows and less common types of compressed files, I recommend UltimateZip or 7Zip:

I’m assuming you are finding the dll file(s) inside the zip file. Dll files are usually put in the appropriate place on your computer, according to whatever instructions came with it, and then you use the “Change Icon…” function of Windows to change the icon for your file. Navigate to the dll file and any icons available will be shown and can be chosen. If you don’t know where to put it, try putting it in your System32 folder but remember where it came from. Malware puts dlls into the System32 folder so an unknown dll file is in danger of being deleted by antimalware programs.

I have Windows XP and have this problem. I have changed from WMP 11 to WMP 9, downloaded ‘Parentlogic Filecure’ but all to no avail.
Whenever i try to play a DVD I get the following error message: Error ID = 0xC00D116A.
Can anyone help?? Been at this most of today and getting frustrated.
